Feedback, comments and opinions regarding the provision provided by 'Cynnydd Digidol'.
The pupils of Dosbarth Teifi (Year 5 & 6) at Llanybydder School are always delighted to welcome Mr Roderick into our classroom. We have been immensely fortunate to benefit from Heulyn's expertise during several inspiring and informative workshops, which have significantly enhanced both the pupils' and my own digital competence skills.
Recently, the children engaged in a digital workshop with Heulyn, focusing on the important topic of online safety. They commenced with mature discussions on the pros and cons of the internet, followed by a deeper exploration of online safety. Then, Heulyn demonstrated how to use Google Sites, enabling the children to create their own webpages on online safety, which exhibited an impressive standard of quality. The afternoon session allowed the pupils to apply their morning knowledge by creating and editing their own radio show. Their enthusiasm was delightful to see, and the final product was shared with parents, fostering a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Additionally, Heulyn has conducted practical and exciting workshops where pupils collected data, created graphs, and analysed spreadsheets through activities such as penalty shot speed measurements and measuring rowing distances on a 'Concept 2' rowing machine.
Heulyn’s ability to adapt to the diverse needs of learners, combined with his approachable demeanour, fosters an environment where every child experiences success.
We eagerly anticipate Mr Roderick's return to our classroom soon.
Heulwen Williams
(Year 5 & 6 Teacher)
Many thanks to Heulyn Roderick for providing exciting and enriching experiences in the process of developing our pupils' Digital Competency skills across the curriculum.
He visited us weekly over a half term period and prepared and delivered practical high quality lessons. The children digitally recorded their running speed and rowing distance and created spreadsheets to analyse and compare their results. Extremely professional and interesting radio programmes edited using 'Audacity' were produced and the work was shared with the public. A green screen and video camera were used to create excellent informational videos to share with parents.
Heulyn thoroughly prepared and brought specialist equipment to improve our provision at school and each session was extremely productive offering excellent value for money. The children were delighted and responded extremely positively to the sessions.
He was able to upskill the pupils and staff in a warm and friendly way and we very much look forward to working with him again in the near future.

Many thanks to Heulyn for providing very effective professional development for the staff.
The staff have benefited greatly from the training and as a result have improved their knowledge with regards to Digital Competence in order to respond to the requirements of the Curriculum for Wales. The provision for developing digital skills 'Data and Computational Thinking' has improved significantly in all classes.
The pupils also benefited greatly, by undertaking inspiring Digital Competence activities and experiences that met our requirements, following our self-evaluation processes. As a school we identified gaps in our provision for ‘Data and Spreadsheets’. These gaps stemmed from a lack of confidence among staff to introduce and develop these specific aspects.
This model of working has certainly been a great success for the school by combining staff development with the incorporation and development of our pupils' digital skills.
We look forward to continuing the professional and prosperous partnership with ‘Cynnydd Digidol’ in the future, and wish to thank Heulyn for his important contribution to staff Professional Development.
Mrs. Carys Richards
Head – Cefneithin Primary School
Thank you Heulyn for providing the best Professional Development Training for staff that we have experienced for many years.
Through our self-evaluation processes the school had identified gaps in our provision with regards to Digital Competence. It became apparent that there was a lack of confidence among staff to teach certain aspects of the framework, e.g. Logo, Coding, Spreadsheets and audio and video editing.
Following a conversation with Heulyn and agreeing on a whole school training plan, he visited the school weekly providing specific Digital Competence lessons to the pupils while at the same time training our staff on how to present these skills effectively in the future, through cross-curricular numeracy and literacy experiences.
The result of this was a significant increase in pupils' digital competence skills across the school, an increase in the range of rich information technology experiences that are presented to the pupils as part of the learning, and a significant increase in the confidence and knowledge of staff on how to present these skills naturally as part of the cross-curricular learning.
We look forward to continuing this valuable professional partnership with ‘Cynnydd Digidol’ and thank Heulyn for his important contribution to the Professional Development of the staff.
Mr. Aled Evans

Thank you so much to Heulyn for providing excellent professional development for the staff.
Staff have benefited greatly from the training and have improved their awareness regarding Digital Competence and what is available through HWB in order to fulfil the Curriculum for Wales requirements.
As a result, the provision for the development of digital skills has improved significantly in our classes.
The pupils also benefited greatly by undertaking inspiring Digital Competency activities and experiences that meet the requirements of the Framework i.e. Creating Websites and Recording and Editing a Radio Programme. As a result of this pupils' knowledge of keeping safe online has improved significantly.
This model of working has certainly been a great success for the Federation by combining staff development with the incorporation and development of our pupils' digital skills.
We will certainly be using ‘Cynnydd Digidol’ in the future to further develop our capacity to deliver Digital Competency skills.

Heulyn Roderick provided excellent professional development in terms of Digital Competence across the primary age range by working closely with teachers and support staff in the classroom.
The pupils benefited greatly by undertaking rich and numerous Digital Competence activities and experiences that met the requirements of the Framework.
I can testify that this model of working has been a great success at Ysgol Rhys Prichard by combining staff development with incorporating digital skills and experiences across the 6 Areas of Learning and Experience.

As Ysgol Ffynnonbedr and Ysgol Bro Pedr's Digital Competence coordinator, see the quotes below from the two most recent inspection reports, regarding the ICT and Digital Competence provision along with a report on preparing to implement the Digital Competence Framework (DCF).
Ysgol Ffynnonbedr
"Excellent use is made of the ICT room to achieve very high standards in the subject. The most able pupils are well challenged in the majority of the lessons".
"They are challenged excellently in the field of ICT throughout the school. Y5 and Y6 pupils use challenging software very skillfully and confidently. The preparation work before proceeding is an excellent element of the work”.
Ysgol Bro Pedr
"The provision for ICT in the Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2 is excellent and has a very positive effect on the pupils' standards.
Nearly all pupils use their skills completely confidently and very effectively across the whole curriculum. "
"Digital Wizards’ develop their peers’ ICT skills particularly well and conduct a coding club.
Pupils in the primary sector have communication, data handling and modelling skills of a very high standard".
"The range of ICT skills that pupils have by the end of the Foundation Phase and the end of key stage 2 is excellent".
ESTYN - Preparing for the Digital Competence Framework (DCF)
"In a few examples, such as at Ysgol Bro Pedr, digital leads started developmental work with colleagues by checking whether staff are confident that they have sound basic digital skills.
They have then checked whether staff have the skills required to deliver all strands of the current ICT curriculum to build upon, before starting on the DCF.
Staff involved in this basic training value this peer support, which is offered in a mutually supportive environment where they can learn without fear, and no question is too basic".
